MUSICAv0
MUSICA Version 0 is a configuration of the CAM-chem global chemistry Earth system model. This model development takes advantage of the Spectral Element (SE) dynamical core (which is an unstructured grid mesh based on a cubed sphere) which now allows for regional refinement (RR). The initial MUSICA-V0 configuration has a refined grid over the U.S.
This configuration is now available in CESM2.2. Please see the MUSICA wiki page for more information.
Community Simulation: The standard configuration of MUSICAv0 has been run for 2012-2013 and the output is available for download from the DASH repository.
MUSICA Version 0 represents a regionally refined version of the CAM-chem global chemistry Earth system model. This model development takes advantage of recent advancements in CAM that uses the Spectral Element dynamical core (which is an unstructured grid mesh based on a cubed sphere) which now allows for variable resolution (VR) or regional refinement (CAM-SE-RR). Initial MUSICAv0 simulations use a grid mesh with global horizontal resolution of 1˚ that refines to 0.125˚ (~14km) over the conterminous U.S. (CONUS). The figure compares surface ozone for August 2013 simulated at uniform global 1˚ horizontal resolution (left) with a MUSICAv0 global 1˚ simulation that refines to 14 km resolution over CONUS (right).
