MUSICAv0

MUSICA Version 0 is a configuration of the CAM-chem global chemistry climate model. This model development takes advantage of the Spectral Element (SE) dynamical core (which is an unstructured grid mesh based on a cubed sphere) which now allows for regional refinement (RR). The initial MUSICA-V0 configuration has a refined grid over the U.S.

This configuration is now available in CESM2.2. Please see the MUSICA wiki page for more information.

Community Simulation: The standard configuration of MUSICAv0 has been run for 2012-2013 and the output is available for download from the DASH repository

MUSICA Version 0 represents a regionally refined version of the CAM-chem global chemistry climate model. This model development takes advantage of recent advancements in CAM that uses the Spectral Element dynamical core (which is an unstructured grid mesh based on a cubed sphere) which now allows for variable resolution (VR) or regional refinement (CAM-SE-RR). Initial MUSICAv0 simulations use a grid mesh with global horizontal resolution of 1˚ that refines to 0.125˚ (~14km) over the conterminous U.S. (CONUS). The figure compares surface ozone for August 2013 simulated at uniform global 1˚ horizontal resolution (left) with a MUSICAv0 global 1˚ simulation that refines to 14 km resolution over CONUS (right).
