8:45-10:00am:  Motivating: The need for a unifying framework

Day 2:  Integration of different research Communities

Thursday April 16, 2020

8:30-9:00am   Introduction of breakout groups, Questions and Goals

Breakout Session

9:00-10:30am  Preliminary Breakout Session Topics I  (3 different rooms)

1. Integrated, policy-relevant future pathway development - identify Earth System Model needs and inputs from the other communities

2. Earth-System Modeling of combined approaches  - outline current efforts, model uncertainties, needs for model improvement, required observational inputs, and new science questions

3. Values-informed research and ethics of intervention strategies

 

11:00-12:30pm  Preliminary Breakout Session Topics II (3 different rooms)

1. Impacts for society and ecosystems - identify relevant scenario information and/or metrics needed by these communities

2. Identify communication, education and outreach needs for the public, stakeholders, policy makers

3. Existing frameworks and integration (IPCC, Montreal protocol, other possible entities) and links and connections to other efforts

1:30-2:30pm  Optional Hike

2:30-3:30pm Report and Discussion of 1st Breakout group: short presentation of rapporteurs and panel discussion with all three groups

3:45- 4:45pm Report and Discussion of 2nd Breakout group: short presentation of rapporteurs and panel discussion with all three groups

Goals:

  • Define paths of integration of different research communities
  • Establish priorities and timelines for collaborative research
  • Identify new, integrated research questions that can be addressed within this new framework

 4:45 - 5:15 pm Final comments for the day.

Day 3:  Framework Development

Friday April 17, 2020

8:30 - 9:00am: Summary of the outcomes so far and steps towards establishing a framework (workshop organizing committee)

9am - 10:30am Round table discussions and interactive work on path forward to identify:

  • Overarching body that leads the framework
  • Working groups belonging to the framework, working group leads
  • Timelines and ways of exchange between working group
  • Desired  outcomes and products of the framework
  • tbd

11:00-12:00 Outcome of round table discussion and Identification of next steps, including plans for proposal writing, workshop report, white paper, etc.
