WE-CAN flies off into smoky skies

The WE-CAN field campaign is currently underway, flying the NCAR/NSF C-130 research aircraft out of Boise, Idaho in order to sample the chemistry in smoke from wildfire plumes. There are currently eight large wildfire incidents of Type 1 being tracked by the USDA Forest Service in the western states: Klondike, Natchez, Garner complex, Mendocino complex, Carr, Ferguson, Cranston, and MM73 HWY55. The skies over ACOM's laboratory in Boulder, Colorado are noticeably hazy (see photo).
